Twenty-four years after Hollywood wrapped and released The Beach, Thailand's Supreme Court has remarked on all the damage done by Leonardo DiCaprio and crew members.
Now known mostly by its Thai name, Hai Maya, or Maya Bay, the movie served as publicity for international tourism in the South region of Thailand.
Before the Rona took its toll on tourism, Maya Bay was a hugely popular, often crowded-out tourist destination - especially beloved by Chinese.
Yesterday, after 288 months of meticulkous study, the Supremes ruled that the movie-makers had damaged Maya Bay and surroundings.
The ruling ordered Thailand's Forestry Department to restore Maya Bay to its 1999 appearance, before Hollywood showed up, because the moviemakers “environmentally damaged” it.
It also ordered the Department to use funds that it got from Hollywood. That would be 10 million U.S. dollars.
