An ex-police sergeant, fired for drug abuse, burst into a child development centre in rural northeast Thailand [Isan] at noon on Thursday, and massacred 24 children and 14 adults at a child development centre in Nong Bua Lam Phu province in the far Northeast (Isan).
Former police sergeant Panya Khamrab then went home, and killed his wife, their 3-year son -- and then himself, the only good news of the day.
The gunman’s motive remains a mystery. Provincial police said Panya, 34, had been expelled from the force on June 15 for possession of methamphetamine pills -- yaa ba.
The Nong Bua Lam Phu Province Hospital posted an 'urgent appeal' on Facebook for blood donations for the wounded children and workers.
Panya's mother said the ex-cop attended his drug trial at a local court.
"He seemed stressed, took some of his meth pills - and seemed paranoid."
Some survivors said the killer asked for his son, and then went crazy when he learned the child was not at the centre.
He carried a semi-automatic SIG Sauer P365 pistol and a meat cleaver.
 Most of the children were on their midday nap, and were killed with the cleaver while asleep.
 One victim was a teacher, 8 months pregnant and hacked with the kitchen knife.
The so-called 'prime minister' Prayut, who was in Nong Bua Lam Phu on Wednesday (photo), also took to Facebook. He actually wrote:
"This should not happen. This absolutely should not happen. I am extremely sorry for those who were injured and lost (their loved ones)." He copied and pasted the same on Twitter.
The Isan massacre was Thailand's worst in 32 months - February 2, 2020, when a soldier opened fire in and around the Terminal 21 mall in Korat. He killed 29 and wounded 58 with stolen, army-issued rifles.

Sunday: OPEC will cut oil output in order to help Republicans in the November mid-term elections.
Monday: OPEC+ oil ministers meeting in Vienna agreed to an even larger production cut than the White House had feared -- 2 million barrels per day, beginning in November.
Tuesday: The White House ordered 'all-out efforts' to convince OPEC to drop their plans, and send oil to the United States, instead.
Tuesday: OPEC's large production cut is a "total disaster" for Biden and the White House, and the U.S.A. considered that it is a 'hostile act'.
Wednesday: The White House is "having a spasm and panicking," and the Biden administration is "taking the gloves off".
This is just CNN, but all pro-Democrat, anti-Republican, pro-Biden were essentially the same. As of this morning, no outlet or news agency or The New York Times was analysing Biden's "Smart Diplomacy."

Norway petitioned on phone merger proposal
 For several months, the number-two and -three mobile phone firms in Thailand have been trying to merge.
The planned merger of Thai-owned True Corporation and Norway's DTAC has been a bitter fight.
Now, a lawyer who is not directly concerned has sent a request to the Norwegian government to intervene and clear the merger.
Somboon Boonyapirom, in a petition handed to the Norwegian embassy, claims that the merger plans are illegal and unconstitutional.

The Thai junta's Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) arrested a retired teacher and charged him with procuring school girls as prostitutes.

During police interrogation, the old fella admitted that his house was the venue for the provision of sexual services.
 He claimed that he made 200-300 baht in service charges from each customer.
He is charged with sex trafficking, and so are the five customers.

ANALYSIS: TOO POLITE
If there were money to be made on the Hong Kong route they would have stayed, especially since a fair amount of that travel is the hugely profitable business seat, which can be several orders of magnitude more expensive than an economy ticket.
 That they are leaving a prestigious route is a clear signal that the expectation of future profit is unclear. And that signals their opinion of the business climate in Hong Kong.
 They can blame Covid and Putin's Ukraine adventure all they want, but the reality is stark.
 ... What is fascinating about the gradual destruction of Hong Kong as a world business center at the hands of the communist dictators in Peking is that they are willing to forego tens of billions in capital inflows as long as they get their political way, which is (for now) to turn Hong Kong into just another Chinese business center.
