ASEAN bans the Tatmadaw coup leader - but leaves the door open
Good morning darlings. Do you remember what you were doing, exactly 46 years ago?
I do. It was the day of human slaughter by the Thai army, police and their 'village scouts' at Thammasat University. Quite impossible to forget, for anyone who was there. Once seen, never forgotten.
THAILAND POLITICS
The next 'prime minister' of Thailand is being selected this week, and it's far more complicated and intriguing than is necessary.
He is Anutin Charnvirakul, huge wealthy, straight-up loyal to the ruling junta, and careful as a mouse sniffing the cheese suspiciously in the trap.
Yesterday, exactly 29 Members of the Thai Parliament drove up to Buri Ram, in Isan, Thailand's Northeast. They aimed to attend the birthday party of Newin Chidchob, an extremely crafty politician - and political kingmaker.
Officially, Newin is an adviser and 'political strategist' of the Bhumjaithai [Thai Pride] Party, officially headed by Anutin - who already has stated his hunger to succeed Prayut as prime minister, token or otherwise.
His pals who went to Buri Ram for Newin's birthday are obvious about their desire to switch political parties and collect white envelopes. The military, even Prayut, will be intimately involved in the process.
And Newin told them that he will personally support their campaign to appoint Anutin as the next prime minister.

[NOTE, FLASHBACK] In 2008, it was Newin, with heavy army support, who made Abhisit Vejjajiva prime minister.
NOTE2: Anutin was noticed by his absence. How clever.

THAILAND FLOODS
The update
TO SUM UP...
Provinces upriver from Bangkok are warned of more flooding.
There is a full-on attempt by the junta-controlled National Water Command Centre to slow the deluge from the North and protect the capital city.
The centre issued the warning on its Facebook page on Tuesday. It said a monsoon trough would cover the lower Central Plains, the East and the upper South from now through Sunday, and cause heavy rain in parts of the lower North and the Central Plains, including Greater Bangkok.
During this period the centre expected faster flows into the Pa Sak Jolasid dam in Lop Buri province and said the Royal Irrigation Department would have to increase the discharge rate at the dam from 600 to 800 cubic metres per section to protect its structure.

At Ubon Ratchathani (photo) in the far Northeast (Isan) floodwaters hit a 47-year high.
Tuesday saw 23 centimetres of rain, entire villages were flooded out and evacuated.

Well, at least the tourist areas in the South, such as Phuket, are safe from flooding for another few months.
Not so in the North of Thailand
 Chiang Mai flooding persists
Most of the affected areas were in Muang [downtown], Mae Rim, Hot, San Patong, Doi Tao and Chom Thong districts. In the Nakhon Chiang Mai Municipality, which covers much of the city, relief officials on Tuesday continued to distribute food and drinking water to flood-hit people.

THAILAND APEC SUMMIT HOLIDAY
Next month's summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic something-something is now a national holiday.
Thailand's junta declared on Tuesday that November 16-18 is a holiday. For starters, all government offices and schools must close.

Why is this woman laughing?
And this is an official policy of the United Nations. Supposedly it was the brainstorm of Ms. Mel's department because of Covid. Which is a flat-out unsavoury lie.
In fact, since we're [supposedly] dealing with truth,
the United Nations has claimed the exclusive, worldwide right to choose and to license all media, and to label all others as illegal, disinformed, misinformed... And to determine under harsh penalty which medium was disseminating only facts.
It was first broadcast to the world by the disreputable, corruptible (but now 101 years old) UNESCO director Ahmadou-Mahtar M'Bow in 1977.
It called for (fact) a "New World Information Order" (NWIO).
The world escaped - that time. But M'Bow and associates did not and will not give up.
To this day, pointy-headed American women named "Karen" (fact) write and speak volumes in favour of that bunk. Karen's backgrounder is at:

United Nations: 'We Own The Science'
Melissa Fleming, Under-Secretary for Global Communications, speaking at the 'Disinformation Event' of the World Economic Forum [Davos]
We partnered with Google. For example, if you google 'climate change,' you will, at the top of your search, you will get all kinds of U.N. resources.
We started this partnership when we were shocked to see that when we googled 'climate change,' we were getting incredibly distorted information right at the top.
So we're becoming much more proactive. We own the science, and we think that the world should know it, and the platforms themselves also do.
1. Google (and Alphabet, Blogger, YouTube, etc., etc.) are not science. They are technology [or if you prefer, Big Tech]
2. The United Nations Department of Global Communications [DOGC] is not science. It is a propaganda arm of the U.N. Secretariat, formed and tasked with supporting and publicizing the work of the United Nations, including [but not limited to] reports of the U.N.'s IPCC.
3. Mel wrangled an SEO deal without time limit with Google that included threats, intimidation, menacing and warnings.
I am woman, hear me whine.

Oh bummer!
Loretta Lynn, coal miner's daughter and country music queen, dies, age 90.
She sang of love and hardship and knew both. She just wrote what she knew.
She died 'peacefully in her sleep'.
Her hits included Coal Miner's Daughter, Honky Tonk Girl and feminist anthem The Pill.
 Among her brilliant song titles:
Don't Come Home A' Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind)
You Ain't Woman Enough (To Take My Man)
She was born Loretta Webb in 1932, one of eight Webb children raised in Butcher Hollow in the Appalachian mining town of Van Lear, Kentucky.
In early 2021, at the age of 89, she recorded her 50th album, Still Woman Enough.
Well that's plain downright disheartening. Here's something to compensate. On the 52nd anniversary of her death.

Feelgood Story: A Very Special Day
As you all know, the Geelong Cats of Melbourne beat the Sydney Swans to win the AFL Grand Final, which Strines have instead of a Super Bowl.
That is the start of the story.
The Geelong team's Head Water Boy is 29-year-old Sam Moorfoot, who has Down Syndrome.
After the Cup game, the Cats' captain Joel Selwood spotted Moorfoot in the stands and invited him onto the field at Melbourne Criket Ground (MCG) to take part in the Lap of honour.
The AAP interviewed Sam:
"I'm very proud of my boys to win a premiership," Moorfoot told AAP. "Joel said he wanted to get me on the ground. That was the moment of my life, what an honour."

COVID RESEARCH CORRUPTION ALZHEIMER'S
Say one thing for the novel coronavirus, it spurred a heckuva lot of research into Alzheimer's, and we have really learnt a lot.
Example: Decreased proteins, not amyloid plaques, are tied to Alzheimer's disease.
That said, the amyloid-plaque theory has issues:
"A now-seminal study published in 2006 provided evidence that the toxic accumulation of a protein called beta-amyloid in the brain was tied to the development of Alzheimer's disease.
Recently, an assistant professor from Vanderbilt University suggested that some of the images in this study were manipulated by the authors."

Remember Tannenberg
Excellent advice, and Claire Berlinski lays down the history and current events.
This is for history buffs, but NOT JUST history buffs. Very short excerpt:
The Russian plan -- to seize Kiev with thunderclap suddenness, deposing the Ukrainian government and replacing it with a puppet regime -- misfired. And as the weeks passed with Russian troops bogged down north of Kiev, it came to be realized that Putin's legions were far less battleworthy than previously supposed.
Confronted with the spirited resistance of the Ukrainian Army and people, the invaders faltered and recoiled. There were episodes of panic and rout. The Ukrainian countryside became littered with abandoned, burned-out tanks and vehicles: tangible, humiliating evidence of the Russian Army's surprising incompetence.

MYANMAR DICTATORS BANGLADESH ASEAN
Finally, someone wrote something of some importance about the Myanmar Tatmadaw dictatorship:
Myanmar has been laying landmines across a section of its border with Bangladesh.
-- Samina Akhter, Dhaka-based freelance writer and activist for women's and human rights
Then she loses it completely.
ASEAN could be helpful in reducing Myanmar's border transgressions.
Not only has Bangladesh been affected, but Thailand, another ASEAN member, has also witnessed Myanmar's disregard for national boundaries.
ASEAN should take the bold initiative of resolving the Rakhine dispute and put more pressure on Myanmar for the sake of peace and stability in the region.
After all, this is ASEAN's purpose.
NOTE: Not actually, no. "ASEAN's purpose" is to encourage trade and free trade.
And the Second Rule of ASEAN is, "Don't talk about border conflicts!"
That is why there is The Ottawa Treaty. In other words,
The Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction of 1997.
MYANMAR ASEAN DICTATORSHIP SUMMIT
ASEAN has banned Myanmar's dictator and the Tatmadaw from the next ASEAN summit, following the APEC summit in Bangkok on November 19.
But it's complicated.
ASEAN has banned Tatmadaw coup leader and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing from the summit.
but
Buttinsky Cambodia has "invited" the Tatmadaw to nominate "a non-Tatmadaw representative" to represent the Myanmar junta at the ASEAN Summit.
Chances for that to happen range all the way from exceptionally slim to none  at all.
That summit will be held in Phnom Penh from November 10-13.
