Bill Gates turns mad scientist with a plan to save us all
HELLO girls and boys, transformationists and so on... Well, that was a pleasant and semi-productive Thursday. We are now on Friday, May 20, Eve of The Weekend.
G7 wants Taiwan in the WHO
I'm Doing My Best
For the third time in 6 weeks, Thailand's designated 'prime minister' uttered the four magic words. It is not clear whether he meant them as a boast or apology.
After the short press conference, he ordered a convoy trip to the flooded Bang Khen roundabout, scene of massive flooding that caused hours of traffic jams in northern Bangkok.
He said he was doing his best but the rainy season downpours overwhelmed the city's capacity to pump out water.
The drainage simply could not keep up with 100 millimetres of rain.

NOTE: The Meteorological Department has predicted a full weekend of heavy rain, strong winds and more flooding in Bangkok.
Looking out and over the floods at the roundabout, Prayut blurted:
"If the BMA (Bangkok Metropolitan Administration aka City Hall) cannot fix the flooding problem in Bangkok then nobody can."

At Government House Prayut suffered a second media gaggle.
Even though Thailand has been hit by crisis after crisis - from Covid-19, [the fallout from] the Russian-Ukraine conflict and the political divide in the country, the government will press ahead with its efforts to move the country forward.
When the coronavirus crisis eases, Thailand will need investment to spur economic growth.
I want everyone to have trust [in the junta's government]. In times of crisis, the government may not be working as fast as some might expect. But we are determined to tackle all problems.
We need to join forces. This is not the time for conflict, he said.
Thailand's best informed and most prolific scholar Thitinan Pongsudhirak takes an outside-the-box look at Sunday's election for Bangkok governor.
Capital poll portends Thailand's rule
Never has Bangkok's gubernatorial contest been so much about Thailand.
The poll this Sunday is not just about how Bangkok will be run but how Thailand will be ruled.
Beyond the usual grievances and issues that traditionally hang over Bangkokians' lives and livelihoods are larger forces at work.
Whoever comes out on top will have much to say about the bigger national election that has to be held by this time next year.

Taiwan, praised for its early-warning and subsequent handling of Covid-19, has decided that shutting every school in the republic would be an excellent ide3a.
Even though it has had no effect on the SARS-2 Cov virus spread, anywhere on Earth.
Worse, the formerly solid government of Tsai Ing-wen is giving every city/county the actual say on whether to close all schools, starting on Monday.

Chinese] Covid-19 cases are once again on the rise in the United States, prompting some government officials to begin sounding the alarm that masks may need to make a comeback. On Wednesday, the White House held its first Covid-19 response briefing in nearly two months. It was the first for new response coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha, a longtime proponent of restrictions. Jha said if the Biden [junta] does not get its requested $22 billion in new Covid-19 funding from Congress, there won't be enough vaccines and treatments to go around this fall. Last Monday, the Biden administration opted not to end the ongoing public health emergency in place for the pandemic, which had been set to expire July 15.

WAR ON DRUGS TRAFFICKING SMUGGLING
Prayut says he is ready to back an amendment to the Narcotics Code that includes empowering the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) to take the lead in case investigations.
EVERYONE KNOWS
A new narcotics code is the key to resolving the drug issue as everyone knows narcotics pose a threat to families, society and the nation. That is why illicit drugs must be eradicated, Prayut said.
... In addition, penalties for drug users will be revised and classified according to the severity of the offence.

The ruling junta's 'justice minister' Somsak Thepsutin said the new Narcotics Code will include drug-arrest rewards for investigators and whistleblowers.
PHOTO: The ONCB is currently holding an auction of 8 billion baht worth of assets seized from drug traffickers: jet skis, a yacht, luxury watches and gold amulets.
ANALYSIS
ONCB is a quiet, mousey agency that falls under the office of the prime minister in the Thai government chain of command.
Prayut's proposal would centralise all anti-drug, anti-narcotics operations directly under... himself.
The last time a Thai prime minister tried to control the policing of drug trafficking and smuggling was in the late 1970s, when then-prime minister Kriangsak Chomanan and the Royal Thai Army were acknowledged as the world's top government officials involved in narcotics and drugs - both smuggling and trafficking.
THAILAND POLITICS SUBVERSION
In the words of Monty Python, "Now for something completely different".
Thailand's junta has agreed to allow each individual primary and secondary school in the kingdom rule on the acceptable length of hair of its students.
The back-story is that pupils and students throughout Thjailand have become sympathetic, or outright "members" of a pesky, troublesome, anti-coup, anti-Prayut group called (real name) Bad Students.
In order to mask its (very real) opposition to the military regime and calls for reform of the monarchy, the organisers of Bad Students has focused, successfully, on national education rules and regulations such as haircuts and uniforms - and the junta is beyong useless at suppressing them.
The 'ministry of education' and its Prayut-appointed "minister" may be the country's single greatest centre of corruption, but it is out of control.
PHOTO: Three Bangkok members of Bad Students display placards and signs calling for education reform and 'hairstyle freedom' - and there is absolutely nothing that military police and elite poalice units dare to do anything about it - where "absolutely" is an absolute word.

There is a new development in last Sunday's shooting at a church at Laguna Woods, California.
The shooter, David Wenwei Chou (photo below), 68, of Las Vegas, has connections to a Chinese communist front group.
Chou, a native of Taiwan, has close ties to the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification (CCPPNR), an entity under Beijing's United Front Work Department (UFWD), a powerful Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agency charged with overseeing foreign influence operations.
Before he actually opened up on the congregation of the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church, Chou chained the doors and squeezed superglue into the locks.

IT'S A REAL MYSTERY: Say, where have all the public-school students gone? "Over one million students have evaporated from public school rolls over the last two years, the New York Times reported late yesterday. ‘No overriding explanation has emerged yet for the widespread drop-off,' writes reporter Shawn Hubler."
Plus: "To be fair to Hubler, she offers at least two obvious explanations, but seems more concerned about the impact on public schools from them rather than the students."

TRUE STORY
Bill Gates has a mad scientist vision for global health control
... Among his recommendations: a global health database, governments armed with quarantine powers and a quick-time vaccine development system that replaces the current years' long safety and efficacy testing time with six months.
And here's the eerie promise: "No one gets left behind, because we've already worked out how to rapidly make enough vaccines for everyone," Gates wrote.
