Early morning earthquake shakes Taiwan
The 7.2 temblor caused a small, 30-centimetre (1 foot) tsunami on some outlying islands of Japan.
Taiwan shut down all rail services including the Taipei subway. But by noon, life was approximately back to normal, with schools open and trains back on schedule.
The quake (photo) knocked over buildings in Hualien, collapsing its first floor and leaving the rest leaning at a 45-degree angle. In the capital, Taipei, tiles fell from older buildings and within some newer office complexes.

As of Wednesday evening, Taiwan suffered 4 dead, 57 badly injured by the quake.
