How to be sure your children never get Crohn's disease
Good morning all. Today is Tuesday, but more importantly it is May 24, the birthday of Queen Victoria, and later celebrated in the Land of the Toque as the birthday of Lilibeth "Cabbage" Windsor, even though it isn't.

I (Cogan) reflect on [Prayut's] time in power and the disastrous consequences his authoritarian rule has brought about.

We are currently suffering one of those "computer glitches" that experts and scientists use to excuse themselves.

China launches an autonomous mothership full of autonomous drones.
China christened a remarkable new 290-foot ship last week – the world’s first semi-autonomous drone carrier. It’ll carry, launch, recover and co-ordinate the actions of more than 50 other autonomous aerial, surface and underwater vehicles.

Nan proves villages have the answers
A small tambon (village) in Thailand's northern province of Nan has shown the way towards a different kind of self-rule.
Nan's system of partial self-rule was established about 15 years ago by a group of well-respected residents of tambon Namkian in Nan's Phu Piang district.
There, villagers have been able to tackle several tough issues like narcotics, gambling and deforestation, all the while allowing state authorities to focus on similar problems elsewhere.
... With no law endorsing their role, the 42 Warriors of Nan have made progress by successfully installing a self-ruled system.

Behind the scenes: Thailand's IPEF talks
Biden will announce the launch of the IPEF in Japan ahead of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue or Quad summit.
NOTE: IPEF is another of Biden's planned trade zones: the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), which currently seems as exciting as Obama's extinct plan for an Asian 'trans-Pacific Partnership'.

Nice to know I'll never get Crohn's. I was actually counting on that.
MICROBIOME NEWS: Living with dogs (but not cats) as a toddler might protect against Crohn's disease.
The study found that exposure to dogs, particularly from ages 5 to 15, was linked with healthy gut permeability and balance between the microbes in the gut and the body's immune response, all of which might help protect against Crohn's disease.
Similar effects were observed with exposure to dogs across all age groups.”

Even female writers are entitled to an opinion but one thinks Ms Pollard never has seen an actual rebellion..
... There are daily demonstrations throughout the country calling for the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa (his brother Mahinda stepped down as prime minister on May 10 after that deadly violence).
Police and security forces are pushing back with water cannons and tear gas.
It's a tactic that risks tipping the country further toward a broader rebellion.
