Not all mass murders are in Texas

There's a story about July 4 that a lot of FSOs say, "Yeah, that's true, I was there."
Away back in the early 1980s, the president of the United States appointed a new ambassador to Singapore, a rich guy who had donated generously to the election campaign.
He settled in, and issued an order to his staff that he wanted a July 4 Independence Day party on the embassy grounds and inside a secure embassy area.
Invitations were duly sent, and the hot dogs and Budweiser stocks were laid up.
And on the evening of July 4, the ambassador was a very perplexed man because out of all the invitations sent to the elite important and government Singaporeans, there attendance was close to zero. He wanted a fast answer from his staff on why the damned Singaporeans had let him down to badly, and was shocked almost almost out of his BVDs to learn that July 4 was not a holiday in Singapore.
Supposedly a true story, and by the way, U.S. Independence Day is also not a holiday in Thailand, just like another 196 nations.
So to those working today, so sad, and to those with the day off to watch the fireworks, Happy July 4.

THAILAND CORONAVIRUS
Breaking news... The coronavirus epidemic is not over.
The pandemic is (supposedly) over but no one told the Covid
The coronavirus is going to plague us (pun intentional)... well, probably forever. This is the medical news of the novel virus for the 24 hours of Sunday:
2,328 new cases
19 deaths
24,989 active cases
678 serious cases
2,043 recovered
Plus the rest of the world.
Even shamans can't stop the virus.

Canada, in particular, is not taking the 'post-pandemic' declaration very well. But it's complicated.
Canada's emergency rooms bear the brunt of a 'perfect storm'
The situation, clinicians say, is tied to a resurgence of viral infections such as Covid-19 among adults and children and a push by others to seek care delayed by the pandemic, and exacerbated by the high number of healthcare workers who are sick or burned out.

Majority agree with designation of Bangkok protest sites: Nida Poll
Result of a Nida Poll survey released on Sunday claims that a solid, nay Uuge majority of Thais support the junta's new programme to fence anti-Prayut demonstrations into seven scattered 'free speech areas' in Bangkok.
The poll was conducted on June 27-29 by telephone interviews with 1,310 people aged 18 and above.
55% - strongly agree
29% - agree moderately
9% - completely disagree
7% - somewhat disagree

His 33-year-old criminal friend was also shot in the head and body in what police said was a separate incident - which began as a heaten argument over late-night drinks.

Health Department warns of cannabis' harmful effects
Smoking cannabis can cause users to develop asthma, bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Napapan Nanthapong, director of the department's Bureau of Environmental Health, said marijuana smokers face developing diseases, while children and infants who inhale the second-hand cannabis smoke face developing psychological problems.
The U.S. government's National Institute of Health points out:
Since marijuana users generally inhale more deeply than tobacco smokers, they may be exposing their lungs to even higher levels of these dangerous substances.

Canada calls the cops to break up long lines of passport applicants
Children suffer most
As Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, Canadians are returning to international travel in droves, applying for a passport for the first time or renewing passports that expired during the pandemic. This has sparked long lineups at passport offices. In some cases, the police have had to be called due to altercations.
The government knew this was coming and waved it all away.
The union representing more than 2,000 Service Canada workers raised concerns with the government last year about an expected increase in passport requests.
