Thailand's King His Majesty Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has written to the new British monarch "in deep sorrow" at the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Thai government and military offices will fly the national flag at half-staff for three working days as a mark of respect.
 The King's message said,
We feel deep sorrow at the death of Queen Elizabeth II who has been a highly respected  figure  of  the  international  community.
Elizabeth and former Thai King Bhumibol exchanged royal visits during their long reigns and King Maha Vajiralongkorn's message noted that.
"Her Majesty’s trips to Thailand in 1972 and 1996 will be cherished and remain in our hearts. During this moment of bereavement, our thoughts and prayers are with you, the Government of the United Kingdom and the British people."

THAILAND FLOODS
Warning (says a headline). Rangsit district in northern Bangkok has floods and traffic jams.
Today: Bangkok and almost all of Thailand is all about the rain. And floods.
The Worst is far from over in soggy Thailand
Forecasters warn of heavy rain in capital region through Monday, with more traffic misery likely
PHOTO: Frequently 'under construction' but now not under unpleasant-smalling water is Chaeng Wattana Road in far northern suburban Bangkok. The road is the main entrance to the Government Complex, where hundreds of forerigners per day have enter to check and maintain their visas for legal stay in Thailand.

Most of Thailand noticed that the "acting caretaker" prime minister Prawit has been silent about all this flooding that's going on. And around 15 million Thai people and thousands of aliens took notice that the same could and should be said about Bangkok's first "populist" governor, aka mayor Chadchart Sittipunt.
Funny thing (not ha-ha), Chadchart travelled from mosque to mosque in Bangkok so that anyone who dared could have a photograph with him.

An oped in this morning's paper by the assistant news editor of the Bangkok Post, Chairith Yonpiam, has all the look of a change of political policy at the paper, now 76 years old.
The Post has struggled to stay out of the politics of coups and military privilege but Chairith writes, as the paper's top opinion of the day:
Curtain falling for old power cliques
By which he means that the 'dinosaurs' and generals of the past 30 years. Even Prayut.
Even if Prayut wishes to make a comeback, the ruling PPRP may see him as a weak link.
"PPRP" [Palang Pracharath Party] is the political wing of the ruling junta. Internal battles are rending it into many pieces.
And the oped concludes...
On the surface, the old military clique seems strong, but in reality its power is dwindling as the pro-democracy groups start to become more vocal, with a series of protests, and expand their list of demands covering the amendment of the lese majeste law, which is unprecedented.

Prayut, Out! The sign of today's political demonstrations.
Protesters gather next to a picture of Prayut, outside Government House, as the Constitutional Court considers what to do about him.
Prayut's junta-approved top lawyer and token 'deputy prime minister' Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Friday he expects Constitutional Court judges to take up the contentious Prayut case as early as Monday.
The court has set Wednesday [i.e. September 14] as the deadline to submit statements - for or against Prayut's demand to remain in office.
Currently, Prayut and friends argue that he should remain as token 'prime minister' for another three years.
The paper's top news report, however, says that...
Political veteran and long-time Thaksin toadie Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, 61, has launched an official bid to become the next prime minister.
Her Thai Sang Thai Party has pledged a 'full and fresh rewrite' of Prayut's constitution.
Thai Sang Thai Party - Thais Build Thailand
Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, nows 61 years old, will be Thai Sang Thai Party's prime ministerial candidate at the next general election
If you were ranking active, Thai politicians on their energy, Khunying Sudarat would be low on the list.
Thai Sang Thai was founded by Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, former chief strategist of the opposition Pheu Thai Party.
Sudarat formed the Thai Sang Thai party with several former MPs from Pheu Thai and other parties
At a general assembly meeting of the party on Saturday, the khunying said:
I will make the most of my experience and work in the best interests of the people.
We are determined to work hard to change the country for the better.
From now on, Thai Sang Thai will volunteer to create better lives for all Thais.
HUMAN TRAFFICKING ROHINGYA
Each migrant paid 134,000 baht for passage - US$3,700, 4,800 loonies
As of Friday evening, 51 Rohingya were at Satun province in the south of Thailand.
The refugees told Thai Marine Police Division interrogators they had come from Bangladesh and Myanmar's pitiful Rakhine state.
Before setting out, each had to pay 350,000 Bangladesh taka. For this, trafficking agents promised to get them to Indonesia.

Now the Russians have 'visa problems' of their own.
Poland and the three Baltic states said Thursday they would temporarily restrict access for Russian citizens holding EU visas by September 19 [i.e. next weekend] to address "public policy and security threats."
