Number of Monkeypox Cases in Thailand refuses to decline
Good morning, children. It is now the second day of the first two-day weekend of June, 2022, so please be respectful.
THAILAND CORRUPTION SCAM POLITICS
A well-known lone gadfly has revived the 20th century (and early 21st) case of corruption and malfeasance against the Royal Thai Army - aka the GT200 "bomb and drug detection" boxes.
Srisuwan Janya said he will petition the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to look into the army's hiring of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) for 7.5 million baht to examine fraudulent bomb detectors purchased years ago.
The GT200 'inventor' and marketer Gary Bolton is already in prison in Britain over the ridulous claim of magic detection of explosives.
Srisuwan's latest figures show that at least 15 Thailand government agencies were intimidated, threatened and duped into buying 1,398 bogus remote substance detectors worth more than 1.13 billion baht from United Kingdom-based Global Technical Ltd between 2005 and 2010.
[NOTE: Whining to the National Anti-Corruption Commission is exactly like shouting into a dry well.]
Decent background here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GT200
NOTE
Among the army generals demanding purchase of the fake black boxes were current 'prime minister' Prayut and his army BFF and coupmaker Prawit Wongsuwon
People were arrested, tortured, imprisoned and in some cases killed because of the so-called "results" of the GT200 readins.
Not saying "corrupt" but Prayut and Prawit live quite comfortably.

The number of new Covid-19 infections and the death toll both rose slightly on Saturday.
The official numbers: 30 deaths, 3,001 confirmed cases, plus another 3,187 positive results from antigen tests.
Cumulative cases in Thailand since January 1, 2022: 2,240,122.
WHOOPSIE! Maybe we spoke too soon?
The totally untrained 'minister of public health' Anutin Charnvirakul claimed on Friday to The Associated Press that the number of daily Covid-19 infectionsis likely to reach 10,000 this week.
The reason...
... and who can argue?...
is that beaches and bars and restaurants are opening at an alarming rate, and inside there is a lot of noise, and that means people will pull down thrir
masks in order to be heard. And spread the novel coronavirus.
And the AP published it.
For example: More than 300 entertainment venues in Bangkok had requested permission to open.
Anutin is obscenely wealthy and he is completely loyal to the junta and he has no medical training at all. More details at
https://thephuketexpress.com/2022/06/03/covid-19-infections-could-reach-ten-thousand-within-5-days-after-entertainment-venues-reopen-public-health-minister-estimates/
To be honest...
In early April Anutin received front-page coverage for his prediction that daily cases of Covid-19 would reach between 50,000 and 100,000 because of Songkran celebrations.
So we see his expertise.
Joseph Biden, current president of the U.S.A., is going to do approximately what Prayuut just did.
Later this month, having vowed to make Saudi Arabia a 'pariah' of the world, Biden will fly to Riyadh to beg... whoops, sorry, ask politely for more oil.
Well Prayut has received an estimated 200,000 Saudi tourists and 50,000 jobs for Thai workers. We'll see how Biden does.
{In addition to Saudi Arabia, Biden also will visit Israel, Germany and Spain.}

Kuwait enraged by Pride-friendly photo by the United States chargé d'affaires
The picture of the LGBTQ flag was posted on June 1 to mark the start of Pride Month.
The Kuwait government was not amused.
The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said it had summoned the top diplomat at the U.S. Embassy to object to social media posts on Twitter and Instagram in "support of homosexuality."
Kuwait laws ban homosexuals and all homosexuality.

Here we go again...
Thai tourists and residents forced to line up for hours to get their passports stamped and vaxxports approved at Suvarnabhumi (Bangkok International) airport.
Thai Airways International (THAI) blamed staff shortages and slow processing of customer documentation for the long check-in queue at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Friday.]
The airline has come out to explain after a disgruntled customer uploaded a video on social media showing a long line stretching half the length of the entire flight check-in area inside the departures area on Friday morning, the start of Her Majesty the Queen's birthday long weekend.

Six suspected cases of monkeypox were ruled out on Friday following lab tests which came back negative for the virus, says the Department of Disease Control (DDC).
As of Friday, no confirmed cases of the disease have been reported in Thailand.

THAILAND POLITICS
The Pheu Thai Party (formerly Thaksin's 'Thais Love Thais') have booted seven of their Members of Parliamen for voting in favour of the junta's draft budget bill.
A source said Pheu Thai secretary-general Prasert Chantararuangthong sent a message to members of the Line group saying the "disloyal" MPs had been removed from all Pheu Thai social media accounts and the party will raise the issue at a formal meeting of an ethical inquiry panel.
Watch the speed limit signs
New Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt has promised to make speed limits far more complicated than they are.
He said this could start with the long bend in front of the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road, which is nicknamed '100-Body Curve' because of frequent deadly accidents.
"The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (aka City Hall) may limit the maximum speed here of 120kph to even lower at 80kph.
"This will be considered in detail later," said Chadchart at the site of yet another fatal road mishap.
A recent study claimed Bangkok has about 100,000 road accidents per year. Last year, there were 614 traffic deaths.

Taiwan export ban limits Russia and Belarus to chips with frequencies under 25 MHz.
To put that in perspective:
I had a PC with "a blazing Intel 486DX2" that ha a front side bus speed of 25mhz - blazing for 1992.
Go ahead and mock or cheer Taiwan's new export rule, but the flat fact is that it will cripple Russia and Belarus, in ways they didn't consider or plan for.

50 years after 'Napalm Girl'
The myths spread about this 1972 Vietnam war photo are not as tragic as the accident at Trang Bang. But they illustrate the malevelont, obstinate inability of [certain people] to accept facts and to spread myths and lies that are made up solely to spread misinformation and dezinformatsiya, intended to back up their own present-day opinions and narratives.
1. No it's not an American bombing. No American was present.
2. It's a terrible accident by the (South) Vietnamese Air Force. It took place during North Vietnam's country-wide 'Easter offensive'.
3. It had no impact on the war. It most certainly failed to "hasten the end" of the war, as today's relentless myth-makers claim. The war continued for three bitter and murderous years after this photo by Nick Ut of the Associated Press.
Kim Phuc is naked because she ripped off all her burning clothes from the napalm bomb.
PHOTO: In 2016, 44 years after the photo and uncountable stories, photos and films of the brave recovery by Kim Phuc, the stupid people of Facebook banned this photo, proving the old assertion that people who work at Faceook are stupid, ill-informed and horribly under-educated.

GLOBAL WARMING
Goodbye to Coal? Hardly
[O]ver the past few weeks, China and India have announced plans to increase their domestic coal production by a combined total of 700 million tons per year. For perspective, US coal production this year will total about 600 million tons.
... Adding the 700 million tons of new coal that China and India will be mining to the amount they are now producing leads to some staggering numbers. By the end of next year, China will be producing about 4.4 billion tons of coal per year and India will be mining about 1.2 billion tons. Add those together and you get 5.6 billion tons of coal, which is more than 9 times the amount of coal that will be mined in the U.S. this year.

I always hate it when this happens. And to top it off, video of the sex act is unavailable.
A Florida driver distracted by receiving intimate services from his passenger lost track of his surroundings and crashed head-on (it only gets worse from here, folks) into a FedEx delivery vehicle in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, resulting in "injuries to his private area."
That said, aerial footage of the aftermath showed both SUV occupants being treated at the scene, pants around their ankles

If you're going to decriminalize ALL drugs, you need a better plan than Oregon has.
The last two words are unnecessary
Overdoses Up 700% After Oregon Decriminalizes Hard Street Drugs. Officials Mystified.
Background
In November 2020, Oregon voters approved ballot measure 110, making Oregon the first state in the nation to decriminalize the possession of hard drugs. M110 made the possession of personal use amounts of hard street drugs like heroin or meth punishable by a citation of up to $100, and directed funding to drug treatment programs. The voters bought the argument that the state could better disburse resources to treatment rather than prosecuting offenders criminally.
