Probably his last serious decision of his time as prime minister?
Good morning everyone, it is the final Tuesday of the second month of 2022 - February 22.
Joe Biden, who is still the president of the United States, has promised he will end murderous attacks on Asians in America. Some time soon.
And you believe him? Why?
12-year-old charged in murder, carjacking of elderly Asian man in Philadelphia
After the beating, Chin was taken to the hospital where he was revealed to have a brain injury as well as facial fractures. He died on Dec. 21. Two other teens are charged as well.

Serious Question
Will President Joe announce, at his State of the Union speech next Tuesday
 The End of Covid?
If you think he won't state why, but either way prepare to live by your fortune-telling.
Can you say,
"Probably his last serious decision of his time as prime minister?"

CORONAVIRUS THAILAND STATISTICS
Monday's report:
Virus cases rising again
18,883 confirmed new cases of Chinese Covid-19 coronavirus
 15,010 other probable cases.
162 cases were from abroad and
 17 from prisons.
Out of 166,397 people in care, 77,071 are in hospital
and
 32 deaths (0.83% mortality rate)
 796 in ICU (+49)
 202 on ventilators (+13)
And despite the news coverage, it's not just Bangkok.
A majority of Thailand's 77 provinces report a continuing rise in Covid-19 cases, with hard-hit Nakhon Ratchasima (aka Korat) also reporting a looming shortage of beds for new patients.
Thailand's junta promises 'No Lockdown' just yet.
But there's one more thing.
Remember yesterday we wrote that the junta and the largely useless "medical experts" believed that Chinese Covid-19 coronavirus cases would peak at 30,000, maybe 50,000 a day? Remember?
Just kidding.
The new "target" is 100,000 new Covid-19 infections per day, in Thailand.
The Public Health Ministry and the junta-controlled Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) went to Defcon Four on Monday. They ordered that the 'Alert Level 4' must be  raised nationwide and containment measures stepped up in high-risk areas.
Containment measures. But no Lockdown. Got it?
It's all because of the darned Omicron mutant and its fast spread.
Geniuses (not really) of Thailand's medical community got off their bums to inform us of what we knew a month ago:
"an increasing risk of infection among family members and close acquaintances as a result of taking part in collective activities such as dining out,  playing  sports,  and  attending wedding and funeral ceremonies."
So stop it, hear? No funerals until the dying stops!

YOU MAY NOT KNOW
IN FACT YOU PROBABLY DON'T KNOW
Today is the 100th week of the Thailand junta's two-week Emergency Decree to flatten the curve.
Thursday will be the start of Week 101.
I have seen the Lockdown and it doesn't work. Episode Tolu selau sefululua.

Out of the 183 people tested, four were infected.
Question: Is it bad news when Thailand's ruling junta calls out the army to help with this damned Omicron outbreak?
Answer: Yes. Any other questions?

Brilliant columnist Atiya "Ann" Achakulwisut was fit and fightin' when news of the human trafficking massacres broke in 2015, and she recalls a few details of the horror in her column today.
Paween 'thriller' timely reminder of chilling reality
... The case was also unprecedented as it led to the nailing of the highest-ranking military officer to have been convicted of such a crime - army adviser Lieutenant General (three star) Gen Manas Kongpan, who was jailed for 27 years for trafficking, taking bribes and transnational crimes.
He died in prison of a heart attack last year.
The irony is that instead of receiving due recognition as the lead investigator, Police Major General Paween was forced to leave the country six years ago out of fear for his life.
When seeking asylum in Australia, Police Major General Paween claimed he had received death threats after his probe implicated "influential" people who wanted to silence him.

New pragmatism on the rise in ASEAN
[Where by 'pragmatism' the China-appoved policy means 'complicated']
Experienced reporter and analyst Kavi Chongkittavorn says it's an all-new ASEAN.
... Cambodia will become the first country in ASEAN to seek to promote the interests and roles of women in conflict prevention, conflict resolution, peacekeeping as well as in the implementation of the ASEAN Comprehensives recovery framework. At the United Nationa level, both Thailand and Indonesia are also active in promoting gender equality in the UN's peace keeping operation. All ASEAN members have taken part in the UN-sponsored operations around the world in one form or another.
Other agendas on this pillar continue to build on previous chairs' achievements, especially efforts to strengthen Asean's centrality and Asean-led mechanisms in upholding peace, security and prosperity.
Cambodia hopes that all global powers, especially the grouping's dialogue partners, would use Asean as the platform to exchange views, so they could come up with win-win solutions that promote stability and cooperation in the region.

Garbage City: The waste mountain
Despite its reputation of being one of the world's top tourist destinations, litter can literally be seen all over Bangkok.
Bangkok produces more than 8,000 tonnes of municipal waste per day.
Large quantities of the refuse are plastics and infectious medical waste that pose challenges to Bangkok's waste management infrastructure, with environmental experts suggesting the Bangkok City Hall must deal with the root causes of the problem.

Stop putting my lunch in your fuel tanks!
Stop using corn in engines, you dopes!
For more than a decade, Thailand has blended ethanol with gasoline in an attempt to reduce the overall carbon pollution produced by fossil fuel-powered cars and trucks.
And save money by not buying so much Arab oil and diesel and such.
But a new study says that the practice may not be achieving its goals. In fact, burning ethanol made from corn - the major source in these fuels - may be worse for the climate than just burning gasoline alone.
Corn drove demand for land and fertilizer far higher than previous assessments had estimated.
Together, the additional land and fertilizer drove up ethanol's carbon footprint to the point where the lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions — from seed to tank — were higher than that of gasoline.
Some researchers predicted this might happen, but the new paper provides a comprehensive and retrospective look at the real-world results of the policy.

I remember, vividly, the day I learned about Thomas Bowdler. Such discussions were not banned in Canada at that time.

Instead of "sensitivity readers" we need "suck it up!" publishers.

Is it mean to call the CBC a 21st century Bowdler?
Yes. So call them that, and shout it out.
And then there's the even more laughable CNN

Erasing Hitler - How The Allies Cleansed Germany of Nazism
Full reveal: They did it by ordering massive new fascist policies and National Socialist decrees.
Video maker Felton points out that in West Germany...
"It would take until the 1960s and '70s for attitudes to change as the old Nazis retired and a new generation of Germans unconnected with the crimes of the National Socialist period came to power and influence."
However, that transition would be delayed for quite a bit longer in East Germany. ('The Lives of Others' should be required-watching in all schools and universities.)
