Thai baht has hit its lowest exchange rate in a generation

It's Monday, the start of your 149th week under Junta Lockdown.

Ex-cop jailed twice for fraud is at it again
Thana Charoennakha, 62, was caught in northern Bangkok and arrested for a new double-frud.
He already had an arrest warrant for allegedly cheating a gold shop in Mukdahan province in the Northeast, cheating the shop out of numerous gold ornaments - necklaces, bracelets and such.
He tried to explain to interrogatora of the Crime Suppression Division that he had no choice. He needed the gold to pay off gambling debts. And the same with the currency exchange shop that he cheated.

Students Back in School, Fret about the Pandemic's Impact on their Future
But that 'Back in School' is misleading. Or even false.
... Angel Reyes, who is pursuing a degree in materials engineering, is not yet commuting regularly to the University of the Philippines, where classes started on September 5.
This semester will remain mostly online, with some laboratory lessons and examinations in person.
"Sometimes, not being able to interact with good professors feels like such a loss," says 21-year-old Reyes.

Taxis and tourists
Many cab drivers refused to pick up passengers who hailed them in tourist areas, particularly during heavy rain. This act is severely damaging the image of Thailand's tourism.
'1155' is a quick-dial to the Tourist Police Bureau, where English-speaking cops are often on duty.

My Movies Of The Week
The King and I. For the third time in my life, I watched Deborah Kerr, Yul Brynner and Rodgers and Hammerstein in the totally enchanting Darryl Zanuck film of 1956 (filme entirely in Hollywood) and came away more convinced than ever that Anna Leonowens was Total Bitch - the typical white lady certain she could rescue the cute Siamese from barbarity, including King Mongkut (Rama IV).
Soylent Green is a 1979 'sci-fi detective story', set in the future when there is climate catastrophe, dying oceans, poverty, overpopulation, massive water shortages, etc. etc. etc. A genius has discovered how to make food for everyone from ocean algae.
Did I write, 'set in the future'? Sorry, I meant, 'set in 2022'. It's why you shouldn't eat any of those "better than beef" burgers made from kale and crickets.
Miss Meadows, played perfectly by Katie Holmes who used to bang Tom Cruise and pretend to suck up his Scientology guff-and-nonsense. She wears frilly 1950s dresses, teaches and loves children and carries an automatic pistol to shoot rapist-suspects and kiddie-fiddlers to death.

Waiting on the Japanese
Japan is where the outbound, Thai tourists go, and Tokyo has hinted it will welcome Thais once again - in October.
Charoen Wangananont, president of the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA), said there's been no official announcement on whether Thailand will be included in the visa-free scheme.
Both tour operators and travellers are eager to know the decision as they have to prepare and adjust their business or travel plans, particularly for the upcoming high season starting next month.
