Thailand: Revival of the Century
Good Morning World, awake to the final Sunday of August, 2022, celebrating 144 weeks of Lockdown, and still going on
Thailand: Revival of the Century
You have to go back to 1970, dig up that unforgettable speech by Richard Nixon:
The War on Drugs
Or, just drop by Bangkok, where the whole darned thing is set to Replay, Repeat.
The centrepiece is not heroin, it's marijuana.
SPECIAL REPORT
And also kratom.
Cannabis may have been decriminalised but its use is far from liberalised as experts warn of potential problems with enforcing the laws connected to the plant and the cannabis policy being politicised.
Concerns from many quarters have mounted after cannabis was dropped as a narcotic and instead listed as a controlled herb under the Traditional Medicine Wisdom Protection and Promotion Act.

THAILAND POLITICS
The still-prominent Prayut political group started broadcasting its message on Saturday:
Prayut is still prime minister of Thailand.
Prayut unleashed his newest (Number Three) spokespersonlady on Saturday, and here's the line:
Number Three (3) deputy government spokespersonwoman, the quite fit Tipanan Sirichana says:
The Constitutional Court ruling that Prayut had to step down as the junta's 'prime minister' is just a temporary bit of nonsense.
Prayut remains as prime minister. His "temporary suspension" is only until the court delivers a ruling on when Prayut's 8-year term actually ends.
Ex-army commander Prawit is sitting in, temporarily, "So we can be relieved there is no vacuum in national administration."
Prawit and Prayut, together or separately, cannot and will not dissover the House of Representatives and call an snap election. That won't happen.

Democrat Party leader Jurin Laksanawisit said the "government coalition" is intact and united.
Well, we will see.
For the first time in about 900 years, The New York Times is shocked and ahhh'd about revealing intelligence souces.
It has NEVER before been concerned about revealing such sources. It has serially and continuously ignored government appeals based on such sourcing.
But now, in a case that is totally, absolutely* domestic politics, The New York Times can't hold back its sobs. Orange Man Bad, man.

*where "absolutely" is an absolute word.

SUNDAY READ: Not long, and to the point
The Sin of Margaret Atwood
The article is far less about doddering, un-nice Canadian poets than about today's political wars.
Atwood has been assisted in her crusade by hundreds of academics. Professors have forced thousands of students to purchase and read Handmaid’s Tale, just as I was forced. MIT’s Heather Hendershot, writing in Film Quarterly, states that since 2017, sales of Atwood’s book have “spiked 200 percent,” spurred on by rhetoric around the election of Donald Trump and subsequent premier of the Hulu TV series.

Also U.S.A., worth a Sunday read. By Victor David Hanson:
Oprah and LeBron James are victims. Sure.
Elites' divide & conquer failure: How middle class now view their rulers with rightly earned disdain.
The results of these contortions were surreal. The twenty-something who coded a video game that went viral globally became a master of the universe, while the brilliant carpenter or electrical contractor was seen as hopelessly trapped in a world of muscular stasis.
