Thailand arrests 'godfather' of wild animal trafficking
Customs 'Green Cops' at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport arrestd Boon Ching Teo, the 58-year-old Malaysian who may be the kingpin of all Asian wildlife trafficking.
 For now, he is charged with illegal trading of wildlife and money laundering.
 His arrest warrant said Teo is 'a key wildlife trafficker with a worldwide network of illicit trade in rhinoceros horn and elephant tusks and endangered wild African animals, and active in laundering money for wildlife traffickers.'
 A U.S. wildlife NGO provided most of the intelligence used to justify the arrest, by the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division of the Royal Thai Police.
 Teo was arrested in Thailand in 2015 for 'involvement in the smuggling of elephant trunks from Africa' through the Thai-Malaysia border at Sadao district.
 Since then, he has apparently lived in Africa.
 By Monday, he will be taken be taken to the Office of the Attorney-General, where he will be processed for extradition to the United States.

Burmese air force jet intrudes into Thailand
The Royal Thai Air Force scrambled two armed F-16s to intercept the intruding Myanmar MiG-29, over Tak province.
The MiG actually launched an air strike against anti-dictatorship forces sheltering near the border, but inside Thailand.
The presence of the aircraft caused panic as they scrambled to take cover.
The incursion ended without further violence after the Thai fighter-jets arrived.

Reflecting on my adolescence in Japan and the culture shock of Thailand

I envy Thai people's tolerance.
 In contrast, I think back to growing up in Japan. In Japan, the word 'kuki wo yomu' (read the air) is commonplace.
 I think the reason for the popularity of this word is that it is very compatible with the peer pressure that is the foundation of Japanese society. People always read the air, avoid conflicts with others, and try not to disturb the peace.
 Those who disturb the peace are excluded and ostracized. In essence, individuality is crushed.
