The bombs came out in Burma

WHO awards Thailand 'certificate of participation' in Covid tournament
The Chinese-owned and managed World Health Organiation threw a boneo to Thailand on Tuesday for achieving 24th place in the worldwide competition of most-infected, most-deadly Covid-19 nation.
Figures assembled on Monday showed Thailand defeated Austria (25th place) but was outclassed by Malaysia.
The contest will continue indefinately.
Hugely wealth Anutin Charnvirakul, the junta'a loyal 'minister of health' said he was thrilled to bits by nice words by Assistant WHO director Dr Samila Asma. She claimed Thailand was a fine example for other countries especially in its readiness and preparedness.
Not a lie. Thailand started the Covid battle with a nationwide, highly organised health system that allowed trace-and-track from Day One.

The death rate continued high: 120
Yes, well apart from the ruling junta and its clutch of loyal doctors, who doesn't?
The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) said the noxious and off-putting Thailand Pass visa/quarantine scheme should be scrapped from June 1, if not sooner.
The group said it guarantees an additional 2 million tourists will flock to Thailand as soon as the Thailand Pass is dropped.

After the big-bike rider who killed the doctor in a crosswalk in January, the biggest story in Thailand has been the death of actress Nida "Tangmo" Patcharaveerapong.
The fabulously beautiful Ms Watermelon fell or was pushed (or otherwise) into the river off northern Bangkok during a party with friends aboard a speedboat last February 24.
The wheels of justice are turning. Six 'friends' who were at the speedboat party now face serious criminal charges: recklessness causing death, giving false statements and covering up evidence.

Burma gets tougher
The bombs came out in the northern town of Myawaddy, where the Tatmadaw's dictatorship is even less popular than most of Myanmar.
Very unusual for Myanmar - the explosion was a car bomb. At the Burmese end of the 'Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Bridge' near Mae Sot in Thailand's northern Tak province.
The weekend bombing, via an old pickup, caused no casualties, but heightened fears along the border.
Junta authorities in Tak immediately declared a military alert for Tak province, especially Mae Sot.

Just one question, President-4-Life Xi:
How's that "zero Covid" policy working out?
This is a short and excellent read on the massive intimidation used by the junta to prevent any opposition, speeches or writing against their regime.
Here is how the story gets under way:
A new generation of female activists are forcing tough conversations despite state intimidation and arrests
The handcuffs on Maynu Supitcha’s hands were deliberately tightened to inflict as much pain as possible. Every movement sent a shock of pain from her wrist up her arm as she walked to her temporary holding cell.

Down comes Bangkok's first department store
Demolition crews began tearing out the interior of the old Bang Lamphu department store in central Bangkok - better known now as the failed and locked New World Mall.
Courts have agreed with Bangkok City Hall claims that there is no chance to save the decrepit building. Excavating foremen estimated it would take them eight months to level the building.
Bang Lamphu opened in 1983, but never had a chance against the big chain stores.
