There is no sign that the current "fifth wave" of Chinese Covid-19 is fading
All right, quiet down please, children. We are starting a new week today, Monday, February 14, but not until we finish watching the Super Bowl.
THAILAND CORONAVIRUS
There is no sign that the current "fifth wave" is fading.
On Sunday in Thailand:
15,882 new Covid cases, 24 more deaths
This compared with the 25 coronavirus-related fatalities and 16,330 new cases reported on Saturday.
Among the Sunday cases, there were 15,682 local cases and 200 imported cases.

THAILAND POLITICS ANALYSIS
MONDAY MORNING ANALYSIS
And the splits just keep onf coming
Further signs of PPRP splits
Emergence of Ruam Thai Sang Chart is a sign of trouble in the ruling party
The party was set up to support Prayut carrying on as premier after the next election, [party organiser and temporary chief] Mr Seksakol said, adding he did not want anyone in the PPRP to pressure the PM for their own political gain.
He said the political situation is increasingly volatile, with the risk of an early House dissolution as a result of internal rifts within the coalition government and the repeated lack of a quorum leading to the cancellation of recent House sessions.
Ruam Thai Sang Chart (Uniting Thais to Build the Nation) first received public attention early last year, after claims surfaced that the party was set up as an alternative to the PPRP, should it encounter legal troubles.

One of Thailand's top political issues of the day is the continuing boycott of parliament by members of opposition parties.
They are betting that if they cause a lack of quorums and cancellation of of sessions of the House of Representatives, it will force the resignation of Prayut and cause a snap, nation election.
The graphic shows what MPs (including Prayut) get for sitting at home and ignoring parliament.

Back to the 1970s
NOTE: As of Sunday, this newspaper story was ratio'd 36-395. The newspaper's timorous editors removed all comments.
Members of Thailand's harshest (and goofiest) groups of pro-monarchy, pro-junta get their wish to throw out Amnesty International and ban its publications.
Seksakol Atthawong, self-identified as a "vice-minister in the office of prime minister" Prayut, said he has a petition with 1.2 million signatures of Thais who want AI booted.
"This organisation destroys the security of the country, it supports groups that want to topple the monarchy, it lacks impartiality and sided with an anti-government movement that is anti-constitutional monarchy," claimed Seksakol, a former red-shirt rabble-rouser known as "Rambo Isan", told Reuters.
Back in November, Prayut ordered an investigation into Amnesty. He has not commented publicly on the petition.
[Just spit-ballin'... but maybe these super-expert armed virus testers believed the seven victims were caused by bats, coughing on them?]

When a party of tourists and guides emerged from the Nakee Cave in Nakhon Phanom (NKP) province last week, an extremely efficient, no-nonsense team of Chinese Covid-19 testers met them.
They found seven tourists and guides had Covid-19, and whisked them away to an unknown future in isolation.
This story is so utterly packed with fake news that newspaper editors and readers believe it.
In any case, the cave is closed until Thursday.
But wait! There's more stupid stuff just waiting your click.

THAILAND CORONAVIRUS
Prayut denies infighting within the government. (He's havin' fun with you!)
He insists that everything is fine. Peachy keen, even.
'Prime minister' ex-army general Prayut Chan-o-cha keeps insisting that he will be around until the end of his term in March 2023.
He has been saying it to anyone who would listen since last year and he double down on it last week.
He said that he will be around to personally greet Asian Pacific leaders at the next Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in November.
Now, a new tactic by opposition parliamentarians may work where others have failed. The MPs are trying to force him out of his premiership by not attending parliament meetings.
The lack of quorum which result led to the cancellation of the parliament meeting on Thursday. That was the sixth time in less than two months.

Now tell us something we don't know.
What are the Top Two things that parents hate about junta policy and orders on coronavirus?
1. Online learning
2. Vaccination of youngsters
The survey was by the experienced Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, aka the Suan Dusit Poll.

With the State of the Union speech coming up on March 1, a growing number of Democrats are pointing to that date to begin the turnaround. They are urging President Biden to consider the bold move of lifting all mandates and restrictions that are within his power to do so.
It's already being billed as the greatest policy collapse since the nomination of George McGovern for president.

[$US 193,000. So not all the grifing and graft of the pandemic era has enriched the junta and its synchopants.}
Police say Frenchman Christian Robert Leonard Herve, 59, was pulling his scams in and around Pattaya.
A French national was arrested on Saturday for cheating a number of foreigners in Pattaya out of 6.3 million baht in total.
He told victims that "he had a friend" to help him smuggle big motorcycles into Thailand and sell them at double the price.
Pol Maj Gen Atthasit Kijjaharn, the Chon Buri police chief, said the arrest of Herve Christian Robert Leonard, 59, was made with seven warrants issued by the Pattaya Court for seven swindle cases - six in Pattaya and one in Nong Prue areas.
In addition,
He had overstayed his 2020 visa by one year, four months and 27 days.

The Monday Morning Joke
An old woman walked up and tied her old mule to the hitching post.
As she stood there, brushing some of the dust from her face and clothes, a young gunslinger stepped out of the saloon with a gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other. The young gunslinger looked at the old woman and laughed, "Hey old woman, have you ever danced?"
The old woman looked up at the gunslinger and said, "No,... I never did dance… never really wanted to."
A crowd had gathered as the gunslinger grinned and said "Well, you old bag, you're gonna dance now," And started shooting at the old woman's feet.
The old woman prospector — not wanting to get her toe blown off – started hopping around.
Everyone was laughing. When his last bullet had been fired, the young gunslinger, still laughing, holstered his gun and turned around to go back into the saloon.
The old woman turned to her pack mule, pulled out a double-barreled shotgun, and cocked both hammers. The loud clicks carried clearly through the desert air.
The crowd stopped laughing immediately.
The young gunslinger heard the sounds, too, and he turned around very slowly. The silence was almost deafening.
The crowd watched as the young gunman stared at the old woman and the large gaping holes of those twin barrels. The barrels of the shotgun never wavered in the old woman's hands, as she quietly said,
"Son, have you ever kissed a mule's ass?"
The gunslinger swallowed hard and said, "No m'am… but i've always wanted to."
There are five lessons here for all of us:
– Never be arrogant.
– Don't waste ammunition.
– Whiskey makes you think you're smarter than you are.
– Always make sure you know who has the power.
– Don't mess with old women; they didn't get old by being stupid.(h/t Ace of Spades)
