The return of Thaksin Shinawatra to Thailand continues to raise questions about the fairness of our justice system.
Thaksin did not spend a single day behind bars. During his six-month "imprisonment", the 74-year-old convict spent time at Police General Hospital.
He was branded by political opponents as "untouchable" after Pheu Thai MPs insisted his name could not be mentioned during parliamentary debate.
During a debate in the Lower House on March 28, Move Forward (i.e. 'progressive') MP Rangsiman Rome sought an explanation from Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong about Thaksin's special treatment at the hospital. Pheu Thai MPs protested against his reference to "Thaksin".
Finally, House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha stepped in to "ask" Rangsiman to refer to Thaksin not by his name but his position as "a former prime minister".

THAILAND IMMIGRATION REPORTING
The Immigration Bureau of Thailand under the Royal Thai Police still doesn't work and the IB won't say why. This is a True Story that happened this week.
Monday morning: Logged into the IB's spiffy new system for reporting stays of 90 days in the country. The system automatically showed the form (TM47) to be filled for the process. It's terrifically complicated but after some time, hit 'Submit' and sat back in satisfaction -- yet another 90-day report done, my one hundred and ninety second (192nd).
Monday afternoon: Via email from the IB, confirmation of the completed application.
Tuesday morning: New email from IB: 'Your application has been rejected.' Made and copied a new and identical copy of the form. Passport in hand, hailed a taxi for the 400-baht-plus-tolls trip to the designated, horrendously located Immigration Bureau at the back of Government Complex, Nonthaburi.
Just before the mandatory one-hour lunch break, located the Royal Thai Police lieutenant colonel in charge of the 90-day reporting section. She smiled and said, "Oh, never mind. No problem. That's just a computer glitch. Your first application (on Monday morning) was fine. See you again in July?"
