Vietnam re-tightens -- communists name police minister as state president
What do you call a failed Thai army general? 'Senator'.
That, or 'Member of the Privy Council'.

Death and resurrection of online communications in Nong Bon, Thailand.

Vietnam's Communist Party has named police minister To Lam as the nation's new president
The president holds a largely ceremonial role but is one of the top four political positions. The others are the party chief, the prime minister and the parliament speaker.

Campaign vengeance to unseat Thai prime minister gets under way
It stresses the point that The Process is the Punishment
A 40-man band of retired military brothers filed a demand to Thailand's top court to force Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin out of office. They are the same senators -- now official 'caretakers' until an election, possibly in July -- who prevented election-winning Move Forward Party chief Pita Limjaroenrat from becoming prime minister last year.
The senators formally charged PM Srettha with illegally appointing the crooked super pro-Thaksin lawyer Pichit Chuenban to the cabinet.
The 9-member court is likely to meet on Thursday and to take the complaint seriously. All 40 kvetching senator and all 9 judges were appointed by the now-former dictator and army General Prayut Chan-o-cha after his coup of 2014 overthrew the elected government of Yingluck
Shinawatra -- now in exile but trying to negotiate a return to Thailand. There is no appeal against a ruling by the Constitutional Court.

Pita, progressive MFP meet to 'adjust' new policies
Pita Limjaroenrat (photo) is back in traces as head of the Move Forward Party, Thailand's version of progressives.
The main goal: to capture at least 270 seats, 300 would be better, at the next election.
But the party officially adopted a six-point 'economic agenda' during last weekend and aims to overhaul the country.
These 'new' policies sound neither novel nor progressive.
I believe we can turn challenges into energy to drive the country forward
One of my pet peeves with newspapers around the globe, wrote Roger in this week's Sunday column, has always been the proliferation of acronyms, especially in headlines.
My allergy to acronyms was cemented in the early 1970s in Thailand when there was a heavy-handed government organisation called the Board of Inspection and Follow-up of Government Operators. It was commonly known as 'Bifgo' which frankly sounded like some sort of dog food.
Or how about 'DOE to do NEPA's EIS on BNFL's AMWTP at INEEL after SRA protest", seen in a U.S. newspaper? Well that certainly made things clear.
Bifgo in fact was supposed to be an anti-graft agency but was disbanded in 1973 when all five members were themselves found guilty of corruption -- Amazing Thailand and all that.

Even the simplest of acronyms can give newsreaders a headache. One BBC Radio newscaster was heard to say "The unorganised conference... erm ...I'm sorry, the U.N. organised conference".
