WHO does what WHO always does
G'day kids and all. It's Friday, the third Mother's Day in a row under Lockdown, Curfews, Masking and etc, etc.
On Mother's Day, every website in Thailand opens with something like this.
THAILAND CORONAVIRUS EXPERTS SCIENCE
Most of nation 'will get Covid by year's end'
Daily infections likely in tens of thousands
It should take about three years from the emergence of Covid-19 for it to infect most of Thailand’s population, a virologist said yesterday (Thursday).
Doctor Yong Poovorawan, chief of the Centre of Excellence in Clinical Virology at the Department of Paediatrics of Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Medicine, put it this way:
'Most' of the 70,000 population in Thailand will likely have been infected at least once, similar to influenza.
Whereas in previous times epidemics such as cholera or Spanish flu usually only needed a year to infect most people in the country, killing about 1% of the population, medical technology advances have extended this timeframe a lot.
If you ask them, they will come.
FTI sees opportunity in strait spat
Seeks investment by Taiwanese chip firms
Thailand's junta-directed Federation of Thai Industry (FTI) announced on Thursday that it intends to try to take advantage of the Taiwan-China tiff.
Specifically, FTI wants to 'invite' Taiwan's world-dominant semiconductor industry to move or at least invest in fab plants in Thailand.
Said FTI poobah Kriengkrai Thiennukul of FTI, it's not fair that the U.S.A. and Singapore should be the only ones to profit from the 'Taiwan Strait spat'.
"As TSMC (chip giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) is seeking to expand its investment to Singapore and other countries in ASEAN, the Thai government should invite the company to invest in Thailand."
At first glance "It's Not Fair!" does not look like a reliable foreign policy platform.
China-owned WHO continues to do what WHO always does.
Don't blame the players, blame the game.
WHO warns people not to attack monkeys just because there's a monkeypox outbreak.
I'm pretty sure this is how Planet of the Apes began.

GOVERNOR MILLIONAIRE
Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt has declared assets worth 42.85 million baht, according to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) - US$1.2 million, 1.5 million loonies.
He made the asset declaration to the graft panel after his election on May 31.
The assets are all in Mr Chadchart's name. He ditched his wife in 2017.
Thai narcs are getting massive information on the Korat murders of a Nigerian man and Vietnamese woman.
There's good evidence they were lovers - but deeply involved in international trafficking and smuggling of methamphetamine and ice.
The murders were brutal. The victims were identified this week by serial numbers on the woman’s silicone breast implants and the man's fingerprints.
She was Nguyen Thi Van, 33, and her partner was Anabon Chka Hen, 38. They had lived in a house in Malaysia, and possibly in northern Myanmar (Burma).

Things You Can Never Have Enough Of
There are only 14,000 7-Eleven stores in Thailand. Some residents have to walk up to 100 metres to get to one. Unacceptable!
So franchise owner CP-All will open another 800 7-Eleven stores in the next six weeks.
TRIVIA: The Thai word for 7-Eleven is Seh-VEN.

HFMOG PLEASE
Surely someone can assure us we won't get anything more asinine, uninformed and misinformed. Right?
I'm going to forecast that there will be no apology and no accountability for Fake News and dezinformatsiya from the White House.
Although tbh when Kam swung into her Royal We, I giggled.

I wonder...
When the up-and-coming Xi Jinping left China to go to live as an American farmboy in Muscatine, did he know that his chosen destination of Iowa was the only state in the entire U.S.A. that begins with two vowels?
The Train Is Back
The separatists rebels of the deep South can shoot and bomb and try to block communications.
So far it hasn't worked. For 60 years-plus. The Bangkok-Malaysia trains are working perfectly - again.
But speaking of railway trips...
This tweet is quite misleading. The reason that trains can and passengers won't be using the splendid junta-erected Bang Sue Grand Station before 2023 (or so) is because the station is a walk-in medical centre for free Covid inoculations and diagnoses.
And monkeypox.
The unceasing, never-ending daily Covid report for Thailand is still drearily bad news.
• 2,316 new cases in hospital
• 35 deaths
• 21,304 active cases
• 919 serious cases
The only somewhat positive news:
• 2,076 recovered
