Good morning kids. In Thailand, and coming to all residents of Earth, it is another Tuesday, but this time, February 15.
Prayut's greatest political enemy talks about Covid-19
And the end of insurance
The wealthy construction executive is currently the minister of public health, deputy prime minister - and the only current politician who says openly that he wants to be the next choice as next-prime minister by the military regime.
On Monday, he tried to spin the imminent end of free medical care for Covid-19 victims. As of March 1 (less than two weeks) his ministry will take the Chinese coronavirus off the list of diseases eligible for free treatment - from diagnosis to full recovery.
Anutin said there the end of universal coverage will come in stages. As of March 1, anyone who thinks they might have Covid-19 will get three days of treatment for free.
His own public health deputy has called for a delay in the plan until April Fool's Day. The current 'prime minister' ex-army general Prayut Chan-o-cha hasn't said a word.

U.S.A. ASIAN AMERICAN VIOLENCE
'Yet another Asian woman'
A maniacal killer stalked Christina Yuna Lee right into her New York City apartment. And stabbed her to death.
Video obtained by New York police shows the suspected killer tailing the 35-year-old victim on the street - and into her sixth-floor apartment building. He approached her closely from behind as she opened the front door. And strolled into her hallway.
Minutes later, a neighbour across the hallway called 911 around 4:30 a.m., saying he had heard Christina's screams during the brutal stabbing.
Police revealed they are searching for a suspect who is not Hispanic and not Asian and not White. They arrested one man who fit that description.
They later charged Assamad Nash, 25, with murder and burglary.

The Phuket health office reported Monday that it had 557 new cases of Chinese Covid-19 on the island province - 436 locally transmitted and 121 carried in by foreign tourists and visitors.
CORONAVIRUS GAME CHANGER
Thailand's over-bearing military authorities began last weekend to work on an announcement to end free medical and other treatment for the Chinese Covid-19 coronavirus.
The government's Department of Health Service Support, under the ministry of public health, admitted on Monday it had written insturctions to "all military institutions" to prepare for the outcome of such a game-changer.
Since the first outbreak of Covid-19 in late 2019, all treatment of possible virus victims has been free for all - from amblance services to mass inoculations.
Now, said the scene-setter for the next step, "all hospitals and medical facilities should be ready to provide treatment to patients under home isolation and community isolation" - not in-patient services.
The virus has put unprecedented across-the-board prssure on Thailand, forcing record business failures and unforeseen medical costs.
Until now, the junta has failed in every attempt to contain, control or end infections, currently running at well over 10,000 per day.
There is no junta announcement on just when and end to free treatment will end, but current signs indicate "sooner than later"
The current state of things:
The 'minister' of public health said Monday that he will end the free, emergency treatment of Covid-19 cases on March 1. That is two weeks from yesterday.

THAILAND ECONOMY TOURISM
Thai 'government' officials on Monday were trying to arrange metings with Chinese government or Communist officials to discuss the idea of a "travel bubble" to unleash Chinese visitors and tourists on Thailand.
An agreement with Thailand would determine the number of people allowed in the exchange, including protocols for visas, travel and insurance, said junta spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana.
He said China has agreed to discuss the "tourist exchange" but he refused to provide details.

On Monday, Thailand's medical facilities reported another 14,900 new cases of Covid-19 - and 26 additional deaths.
But another 276,153 people were vaccinated, so there's that.
The still fit ex-Miss Universe Thailand Dr. Apisamai Srirangson, said fatalities were aged 45 too 99.
"All of them were elderly with underlying illnesses," she said. "Fourteen were unvaccinated."
For reasons it refused to reveal, the junta's  Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) predicted that the current fifth wave of the virus would end on March 1.

'Omicron could be the undoing of Xi Jinping
Omicron entered China mainly through the port city of Tianjin, which is 30 minutes by high-speed rail to Beijing.
City-wide lockdowns are unlikely to work against a variant as infectious as Omicron. This is evident in Hong Kong where the Omicron outbreak looks increasingly serious.

A millisecond glitch in the matrix on Monday put millions of AIS internet, phone and text users completly offline for up to three hours.
AIS chief executive Somchai Lertsutiwong said the glitch was caused by problems with the power distribution system and uninterruptible power supply, which caused disruption for around two hours.
Some two million subscribers were affected.
The moribund regulator, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), demanded a full explanation, including what compensation AIS plans for its customers.

COMMENTARY CRIME DRUGS
Welcome to Thailand: Ganja anyone?
Columnist Kavi Chongkittavorn delves deeply into the Thai 'government' policies and comes up with one, actual conclustion:
Can marijuana be smoked for recreational purposes in Thailand?
The answer is a clear 'no'.
And not just 'No!' but 'HELL NO!'

Shaming the shaman
Real justice shouldn't be entertaining
writes always acerbic columnist Atiya "Ann" Achakulwisut.
"It is ironic, as laughable as it is sad.
"Facetiously, dramatically and almost jokingly, justice was literally seen to be done via the live streaming of an event last week when local residents and reporters stormed into a monk's quarters and found a woman hiding there at night.
 "Is this a serious charge?
"Setting aside the  philosophical debate on whether celibacy is essential for enlightenment, it would seem so."
THE BACKGROUND, as Atiya reports:
The event in question unfolded late last week when a group of local villagers called on Mor Pla, a celebrity shaman who proclaimed to help victims of supernatural powers, to probe the monk who served as the abbot of a Samut Prakan temple.
The villagers claimed CCTV footage showed a woman entering the monk's quarters in the evening who did not come out after several hours.
==
It is no surprise that the storming of the monk's quarters and his eventual defrocking is generally viewed as a success story, a real-life chase and establishment of justice more sensational than most [soap opera] dramas.

News Analyst Peter Apps of Reuters explores:
China faces tough choices amid reopening.
[REUTERS] China still has the stated policy objective of entirely eradicating COVID-19 - a so-called "zero Covid" policy – and Baise is not the first major mainland city to be locked down since December.
How Beijing chooses to handle the pandemic endgame will have an impact both on its own future and on relations with the rest of the world.

Especially for the 4 or 5 people left in the world who don't know enough about this.
The trucker convoys and blockades protesting mask and vaccine mandates are a stirring spectacle of patriotism, civic responsibility, and true grit.
They represent the offset to heavy-handed and arrogant government that is using everything in its power to suppress their efforts: threats, fines, police coercion, theft of property, and the manifestly illegal sequestering of funds donated to the truckers by private individuals.

WADA shows how useful (and honest) it isn't
The useless and extremely well-paid adjudicators of the World Anti-Doping Agency showed their stuff again on Monday.

"Sure, she's taking trimetazidine and other drugs, but no big deal, ya know?"
